Tide Mill Institute Joins National Hydropower Association

by David Hoyle, TMI Leadership Team

The Tide Mill Institute’s leadership team is pleased to announce that TMI has joined the National Hydropower Association (NHA) for 2023. The NHA is a nonprofit national association dedicated to preserving and expanding clean, renewable, affordable hydropower and marine energy. The NHA’s mission is to champion waterpower as America’s premier carbon-free renewable energy resource.

Membership in NHA will enable TMI’s leaders to participate in NHA committees and councils – the Marine Energy Council (MEC) being the most relevant to TMI. The MEC is the U.S. national trade group dedicated to promoting technologies and related services to harness clean, renewable power from marine energy resources. The MEC works with private sector companies, academia, and government partners to raise awareness of and encourage the commercialization of marine energy technologies.

The primary benefits of NHA membership and participation in the MEC include integration into the marine energy technology community – allowing TMI to keep our members abreast of the latest developments, opportunities to spread the word about TMI – including through tide mill talks, and potential grants to support research work on historical and new tide mill sites in collaboration with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, The Island Institute, TEAMER (the DOE’s Testing and Expertise for Marine Energy organization), etc.

We are excited to start making the most of our NHA membership!
